Carolyn will recap HUHA's 21year timeline, highlighting struggles of establishing a shelter, the eventual growth, her ‘learning moments’ and what could have been done differently.  She will then speak to the current struggles we all face, and how the time's right...right now, for us all to collaborate for societal change.

Carolyn Press-McKenzie

Carolyn Press-McKenzie is well known as the founder of HUHA, Helping You Help Animals Charitable Trust. Carolyn's inspired problem-solving and drive has led a team of HUHA staff and volunteers to save and shelter thousands of animals from death and to find safe outcomes for hundreds of animals during HUHA's Emergency Teams disaster response in times such as the Christchurch earthquakes, Nelson fires, Australian bushfires and continued national flooding emergencies.  Carolyn is well regarded and works effectively with government agencies to facilitate change.   

Carolyn currently heads HUHA's five no-kill animal sanctuaries just north of Wellington, as well as a compassionate veterinary team.  She runs a business that formulates natural products. She is a vet nurse of 36years, trained animals for film and television, studied herbalism, appeared as the animal adviser on TV One's Good Morning, has won two New Zealander of the Year Local Hero Awards, a CANZ St Francis of the Assisi award, was a runner up for Next Woman of the Year and is highly regarded as a change maker across NZ.  Carolyn and her team are currently building a multi-million-dollar Animal Welfare and Evacuation Hub on their 157 acre property on the Haywards Hill in Wellington.  A safe place where animals and communities can heal and grow together.

Carolyn's mission is to stop the volume and culture of disposable animals in New Zealand.
