CANZ ACCREDITED ANIMAL TRAINER or ANIMAL TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

Animal Trainers and Animal Training Instructors are experts in training animal behaviour. This may be teaching basic “manners” such as sit, stay and recall, through to more specialised training such as in agility, tricks or Nosework. Animal Training Instructors work closely with the animal guardian, effectively training the guardian how to train the animal. Animal Trainers work more directly with the animal rather than the guardian, for example in training animals for film or television work.

Animal Behaviour Consultants are trained to address “inappropriate” or “problem” behaviour in animals. They have an extensive knowledge of applied animal behaviour and understanding of behaviour modification. Veterinary Behaviourists have an extensive understanding of clinical animal behaviour and use adjunctive methods of therapy including psychoactive medication. Behaviour Veterinarians use management/treatment plans based on best practice and scientific evidence. Issues such as fear, anxiety, aggression, compulsive disorders and many more may be managed by a Veterinary Behaviourists.
