2024 Webinar Series
FREE expert webinars for pet guardians
In our 2024 webinar series, named ‘Misbehaviour or Misunderstood’, accredited behaviour consultants and veterinary behaviourists delved into the behaviour of companion animals.
Are we interpreting our animal’s behaviour in the wrong way? How can we better understand their drivers?
Webinar 1 - 16 July 7pm
“Recall Gone Rogue: When Your Dog’s Instincts Take Over”
Maria Alomajan, Certified Dog Behaviour Consultant and Accredited Trainer
This webinar addresses the complexities surrounding aggression by dogs towards familiar people. Given the prevalent misinterpretations surrounding this behaviour, such as misattributing it to “dominance,” there is a pressing need to understand and address the multifaceted reasons that contribute to this aggression.
During this webinar, Mat will pass on what he has learned from 25 years in the field of dog behaviour. He will outline patterns of aggression towards familiar people he has observed over the years, explain the core reasons for this behaviour, and summarise the practical techniques and recommendations he finds most useful for his clients.

“Older Pets: Understanding New Habits and Cognitive Quirks (cats and dogs)”
Dr. Jess Beer, Veterinary Behaviourist
Studies are now telling us more about how pain, and chronic pain in particular, can affect our pets behaviour. Pain can lead to anxiety phobias and aggression, as well as destructive and unhealthy behaviours. It's time we learn to recognise the signs of pain in animals so that we can successfully address both their physical and mental concerns.

“Reading Animal Emotions - Short Talks by Leading Experts”
Gabriel Lencioni, Britt Florkiewicz, Holly Molinaro - Nat Waran on the webinar night?
Recent studies from my lab have shown that cat communication is more complex than previously thought. Cats are capable of producing hundreds of facial expressions, display evidence of "contagion" in their expressions, and often use these facial expressions to achieve specific goals. The goal of this talk is to explain how cats use facial expressions when interacting with other cats versus humans, and what this means for everyday pet owners.

“Effective Strategies for Working with Fearful, Shy, or Anxious Dogs”
Debbie Jacobs
If you’ve ever found yourself struggling to help a dog feel safe and be safe in their home, whether it’s a transitional foster home, shelter or forever home, this webinar will provide you with foundational information for getting started and/or increasing your knowledge. In 2005, Debbie brought home Sunny from a 477 dog hoarding site. What she discovered was that most of what she thought she knew about training was either inadequate or wrong when it came to training a fearful, shy, anxious, reactive or aggressive dog. Her journey to find answers led her to the science of behavior that provides us with evidenced based strategies to address challenging behavior and skill deficits in the most vulnerable and at-risk dogs.
In this 45 minute webinar you’ll be introduced to principles of behavior that will give you the information you must have to address any behavior challenge effectively and humanely. Learn how you can be part of the chain of caregivers that lead to improvements in a dog’s behavior. Gain insight into why popular games, protocols or methods are safe to use, or should be avoided.

Debbie is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and has been certified as a Registered Behavior Technician by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board. She is the creator of fearfuldogs.com and author of A Guide To Living With And Training A Fearful Dog.

She lives in Vermont in the U.S. and routinely offers workshops and seminars at Lemon’s Hope, a domestic farm animal sanctuary. Besides offering in person training for dogs she also offers online consultations for owners, other caregivers, and animal welfare advocates.
